23 March 2012 Leadership Roundtable Meeting

23 March Leadership Roundtable At the meeting which was held at the Waugh Chapel Bob Evans, State Senator Ed Reilly, introduced members of the staff of a new newspaper in the area, the Arundel Voice which will start on 10 May 2012. This is an expansion of the Severna Park Voice.

The meeting was mainly about county water and what will affect the county wells in the future. Senator Reilly's bill SB1097 expands the water pollution control and abatement program to apply to coal combustion by-products and other water pollutants. It authorizes the Department of the Environment to identify water pollutants to be regulated. It requires the Department to adopt specified regulations relating to water pollutants and authorizes the Department to adopt specified regulations relating to coal combustion by-products.

There was discussion of the two rubble landfills that may go in near the Patuxent river and how they may contaminate both the ground water and river water. The flow of the Fort Meade toxic plume was also discussed.

A general information meeting open to the public was proposed.
